All along the Costa Blanca, you can find a wide variety of markets and rastros, where you can buy anything from fruits and vegetables to clothing and antiques. Most towns have at least one market a week, however in some of the bigger areas you will find more than one market or rastro a week, and other smaller towns may only hold a rastro every month.

|  Typical handmade “cocas”.

In the weekly market, you can find fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh fish, olives and cheeses, electronic items, shoes, toys, clothes and everything related to the textile world. This is a classic Spanish tradition that continues to be maintained to this day. Markets were always where people bought items they needed for their day to day lives, and also a way of meeting up with the locals for a bit of a gossip over a café con leche.

The rastros differ from the weekly market, as you normally find individuals selling their own personal items, either that they no longer need or that they have made themselves. You can find a range of handmade items made from local artists, and also items such as old stamps, rare and collectable books, and antiques of all kinds. In Spain, rastros are becoming increasingly popular and in some of them you can also find fruits and vegetables, funky clothing and jewellery, and other items that we can see in a normal weekly market.
